Contraindications & Skin Sensitivity
Dermaplaning may not be suitable for clients with active inflammatory acne, open lesions, sunburn, active skin infections, compromised skin barriers, significant irritation, or certain inflammatory skin conditions. Recent chemical peels, laser treatments, waxing, and the use of prescription retinoids or other exfoliating products may require postponing treatment. A skin assessment and consultation will be performed before the service to determine suitability.
Possible Histamine Reaction
Some clients may experience temporary redness, warmth, itching, mild swelling, or small raised bumps following dermaplaning. This may be consistent with a temporary histamine-mediated skin response caused by mechanical stimulation, particularly in reactive or sensitive skin. Reactions vary by individual and typically settle within a few hours, although some may last longer. Persistent, worsening, or severe symptoms should not be considered a normal response and may require medical evaluation.
Clients with highly reactive skin, a history of significant skin reactions, or active irritation should disclose this before treatment. Dermaplaning may be postponed or avoided if the skin is not an appropriate candidate.
Your skin’s health always comes first. Treatment suitability will be determined during your consultation, and all post-treatment care recommendations should be followed to support the skin barrier.
